VCH
piercing

Vertical clitoral hood piercing at Platinum Point, Parnell. Anatomy-assessed placement, implant-grade titanium, private appointment. The most common female genital piercing.

Vertical clitoral hood

Anatomy-first, always assessed

The VCH passes through the clitoral hood tissue — the fold of skin that covers the clitoris — with a curved barbell that enters at the top and exits at the base of the hood. When placed correctly, the bottom ball rests against the clitoris without piercing it directly.

Not everyone is suitable. The hood needs enough tissue depth to support the jewellery in a stable, functional position. We assess this at the start of every appointment using a simple Q-tip test — if the anatomy supports a clean placement, we proceed. If it doesn't, we'll tell you clearly and explain alternatives.

The VCH is one of the faster-healing genital piercings: 4–6 weeks for initial healing, 2–3 months to full remodelling. Mucosal tissue (the type that lines the hood) heals significantly faster than skin tissue.

The process

Consultation to healed

Day 1Appointment

Anatomy assessment first

We begin with the Q-tip assessment — a simple, non-invasive test that confirms the placement will work for your anatomy. No commitment until we've confirmed suitability. Private room, full draping throughout.

Week 1–2Initial

Some tenderness, minimal swelling

Normal. Saline rinse twice daily. Loose, breathable cotton underwear. Avoid sexual activity, pools, and baths.

Week 4–6Settling

Most clients are comfortable

The piercing feels stable. Daily cleaning continues. Come back if you have any concerns — we're here throughout the healing process.

Month 2–3Healed

Full remodelling

The placement is fully stable. You can now select decorative jewellery if desired — including fine gold options. We can advise on what fits the anatomy well at this stage.

Aftercare

Simple. Consistent.

The VCH heals quickly when the aftercare routine is followed consistently. The mucosal tissue does most of the work — your job is to keep it clean and leave it alone.

  • 01
    Saline rinse twice daily
Sterile 0.9% saline (NeilMed Wound Wash). Spray directly onto the piercing, let air dry. No soap on the piercing.
  • 02
    Shower rinse after urination
A warm water rinse after urination in the first 2–3 weeks keeps the area clean during normal activity.
  • 03
No sexual activity for 4–6 weeks
When you resume, barrier protection is recommended until the piercing is fully healed.
  • 04
No pools, baths, or hot tubs for 6 weeks
Showers only. Standing water introduces bacteria into the healing channel.
  • 05
    Loose, breathable cotton underwear
Avoid tight synthetic underwear during healing. Cotton briefs or boxers that aren't restrictive.
  • 06
    No ointments or creams
Antiseptic creams, coconut oil, and similar products all interfere with healing. Saline only.
Common questions

Answered honestly

The most common questions we get before VCH appointments. Bring anything else to the consultation.

Am I suitable for a VCH?

Most people with a defined hood are suitable. We assess this with a Q-tip test at the start of the appointment — simple, non-invasive, and takes 30 seconds. If the depth is there, the piercing will work. If it isn't, we'll tell you clearly and discuss alternatives (including the HCH or fourchette).

    How much does it cost?

$150 including anatomy assessment, implant-grade titanium curved barbell, consultation, placement, and aftercare briefing.

    Does it hurt?

Most clients describe it as a sharp pinch that's over in under a second. The hood tissue is not highly innervated. A well-placed VCH in suitable anatomy is typically one of the less uncomfortable genital piercings. The key is correct anatomy assessment — a bad placement in unsuitable anatomy would be painful and likely to reject.

    How quickly does it heal?

4–6 weeks for most people. The mucosal tissue of the hood heals faster than skin. Full remodelling at 2–3 months. One of the faster-healing genital placements.

    Is the appointment private?

Yes. Private room, full draping throughout. You're welcome to bring a support person. The appointment is conducted professionally — anatomical and matter-of-fact, no judgment.

    Can I get gold jewellery?

After healing (2–3 months), yes. We carry BVLA and other fine jewellery in 14k gold. Curved barbells in gold that are correctly sized for your anatomy can be fitted at a jewellery appointment.
