The Bridal
Edit

Your ear, styled for the day.
Worn for a lifetime.

Most brides ask about ear styling six weeks before their wedding.
By then, the choice has already been made for them.

The dress, the flowers, the venue — all of it is for one day.
The ear is for every day after. That's a different kind of decision.

Planning your timeline

The window most brides miss

New piercings need time to heal. The earlier you start, the more options you have — in placement, in jewellery, and in the result.

12 months out
Everything
is open
The full range of placements is available — lobe, helix, conch, tragus, rook. Full healing time means you arrive at your wedding with the ear exactly as you intended it.

Most
placements
Lobes are fully available. Single cartilage placements like helix or tragus can heal in time with the right care. The plan needs to be precise — this is the ideal moment for a bridal consultation.
Lobes + single cartilage
3 months out
Lobes
and BVLA
New lobes are still possible — pierced with titanium or BVLA gold from day one. Cartilage piercings won't heal in time, but BVLA selection for existing healed placements is absolutely available. Often the highest-impact option.
Lobes + BVLA selection

Jewellery
only
No new piercings — but if you have healed placements, this is still meaningful. BVLA piece selection and a pre-wedding changeover to set your final configuration.

Your piercer

Thomas Manning

Head piercer at Platinum Point and Auckland's only certified BVLA specialist. Every bridal consultation is with Thomas — not passed to a junior, not scheduled around a busy floor.

01
The only BVLA-authorised studio in Auckland — giving you access to 3,000+ designs in solid 14k and 18k gold, with 233 gemstone types.
02
Appointment-only, one client at a time. Every bridal consultation has Thomas's undivided attention from first meeting to final piece.
03
Experience matching BVLA stones to engagement rings — creating a cohesive look between your ring and your ear that photographs as a single considered choice.

"The bridal consultation isn't about selling you a piece. It's about understanding what your ear will look like on the day — and what it will look like ten years later. Those should be the same answer."

— Thomas Manning, Head Piercer
How it works

The bridal appointment arc

Most bridal clients come in for two or three appointments. What those appointments are depends entirely on where you're starting from and when your wedding is. The consultation is always first — it maps the rest.

01
Bridal ear consultation
Thomas assesses your anatomy, your existing piercings, your wedding date, and what you want the ear to look like. You leave with a clear plan and a realistic timeline — no pressure to book anything further until you're ready.

02
Piercing appointment(s)
If new placements are part of your plan. Implant-grade titanium is included as standard — or choose BVLA solid gold from day one, it's equally safe for fresh piercings. The healing clock starts here, which is why the earlier, the better.
From $150
per placement
03
Downsize appointment
At 6–8 weeks, the initial post is swapped for a shorter one as the swelling resolves. Included with every new piercing. A small appointment — an important one.

BVLA solid gold

Not just for the day.
For the rest of it.

BVLA is a Los Angeles studio making handcrafted solid gold pieces with hand-set stones. Every piece is made to be worn forever. For a wedding, that permanence is part of the point — it outlasts the dress, the flowers, the venue. It's still there on your anniversary.

What brides ask us

The timing question comes up the most. There's no wrong point to start — but there are better ones.

If you want new piercings as part of your bridal look, the earlier the better. Cartilage placements — helix, tragus, conch, rook — need 6–12 months to heal fully. Lobes need a minimum of 2–3 months. BVLA solid gold is implant-grade and safe for fresh piercings, so you can choose your BVLA piece from day one if you prefer. If you have existing healed piercings and want to add a BVLA piece, 6–8 weeks before your wedding is enough. The bridal consultation maps your specific timeline before anything else.
Healed piercings open up the full BVLA collection — solid gold with hand-set stones, in the exact design and stone that works for your ear and your ring. The bridal consultation is about making that selection with Thomas, and planning a changeover appointment in the lead-up to your wedding day.
Yes — and this is one of the most considered approaches to bridal ear styling. Bring your ring to the BVLA selection appointment. Thomas can match metal colour (yellow, white, or rose gold), stone family (diamond, sapphire, opal), or the overall character of the piece. The result is an ear that reads as part of the same story as your ring.
The bridal ear consultation is $50, fully redeemable against any piercing or BVLA piece. If you've been referred by one of our boutique or salon partners, the consultation is complimentary. Either way, there's no obligation to book anything further at the consultation itself.
We work appointment-only with one client at a time — which means the experience for each person is personal and unhurried. Bridesmaids or family members can book individual appointments, and we're happy to coordinate those around your timeline. Speak to us at your consultation about what works for your group.
It depends on the placement and your wedding date. At the bridal consultation, Thomas assesses your anatomy and gives you an honest answer — not an optimistic one. If a piercing won't heal in time to look its best, he'll tell you. The goal is an ear you're genuinely happy with on the day, not one that's still settling.
