Aftercare

Your new piercing may feel sore, itchy or swollen
Your new piercing may have some clear or white discharge
Your new piercing may bleed a small amount over the first week or so
Redness is expected for new piercings

General cleaning:
Wash your hands thoroughly
Spray sterile saline on the front and back of your piercing
Dry the piercing with clean non-woven gauze or cotton buds. While doing so try to gently remove any debris or crusty buildup
Try not to move the jewellery where possible
Kids Piercing tips:
Avoid your child having a shower and then going to bed with wet hair
When showing family and friends try to avoid them touching the piercing
Avoid changing the jewellery until fully healed
If the child is cleaning their piercing on their own make sure to check the front and back regularly to ensure it's being cleaned properly
Oral Piercings:
Avoid oral products that contain alcohol or whitening products
Avoid contact with other's bodily fluids

Following aftercare from your appointment will help reduce risks associated with piercings. Here are common issue causes.
Twisting or turning the jewellery
Removing the jewellery too soon
Excess length on the jewllery or not downsizing
Cleaning with harsh chemicals or too often
Hair and body products staying in contact with the piercing (shampoo, body moisturisers, fake tan etc...)
Having the piercing submerged in water (swimming, soaking in baths and hot pools etc...)
Exposure to bodily fluids
Not washing your hands before touching jewellery
Sleeping on your piercing

Infections are rare when the piercing is done in an aseptic manner and aftercare is followed.
Irritation and the normal healing process is often mistaken for an infection, Below are the key things that indicate an infection.
Strong Redness (slight redness is part of the normal healing process)
Large amounts of swelling at the piercing openings
Thick yellow/green discharge from the piercing (thin white/yellow/clear discharge is normal)
Throbbing pain at the piercing site
Hot sensation
