Meet the
piercers
Thomas Manning and Kat Thurlow. A pharmaceutical-grade clinical standard, New Zealand's largest BVLA collection, and a shared conviction that piercing deserves to be done properly.
Most piercing studios exist because piercing is popular. Platinum Point exists because most piercing studios don't meet the standard the work deserves. Our protocols are drawn from clinical medicine. Our jewellery is held to implant-grade standards. Our piercers bring the kind of technical background that can't be picked up in a weekend course. This is not aspirational — it's the baseline.
Thomas Manning
Thomas's career began before Platinum Point — as a Clinical Trials Aseptic Pharmacy Technician working in hospital settings. His role was built on pharmaceutical-grade sterilisation and the understanding that in clinical environments, there is no acceptable margin for error.
He brought that background into piercing because he recognised a gap between what the industry offered and what it should offer. Rather than accept it, he built a studio that closed it. Every protocol at Platinum Point is drawn from clinical practice. Every piece of jewellery meets implant-grade standards. The studio exists because Thomas believed the work deserved better — and built the environment to prove it.
He founded New Zealand's only exclusive BVLA studio — understanding the collection from both a jewellery and anatomical perspective, and carrying the largest BVLA stock in the country.

Kat Thurlow
Kat is a specialist piercer trained to the same pharmaceutical-grade clinical standards that define Platinum Point. Her approach is calm, considered, and genuinely unhurried — the kind of experience that makes a real difference for clients who are nervous or booking their first piercing.
Fluent in Taiwanese Mandarin and conversational in Mandarin, Kat ensures that Mandarin-speaking clients receive the full Platinum Point experience — detailed anatomy consultation, personalised aftercare, and the same clinical standard — in a language they're entirely comfortable in.

"The standard we hold ourselves to isn't defined by what the industry requires. It's defined by what the work requires."— Thomas Manning, Head Piercer
What we stand for
Parnell, Auckland
389 Parnell Road sits in one of Auckland's most considered neighbourhoods — surrounded by galleries, architect-designed spaces, and businesses that take their craft seriously. It felt like the right address for a studio built on the same values.
The studio itself is small by design. Appointment-only means there is no waiting room to fill, no floor space to justify with walk-in traffic. There is a treatment room, a sterilisation area held to clinical standards, and the attention of a piercer who has nowhere else to be.
Book an appointmentAbout us
Are you walk-in or appointment only?
Appointment only, always. This is a deliberate design choice — not a capacity constraint. Every client receives our undivided time and attention from the moment they arrive.
What's Thomas's background before piercing?
Thomas trained and worked as a Clinical Trials Aseptic Pharmacy Technician in hospital settings — a role built on pharmaceutical-grade sterilisation where there is no acceptable margin for error. He carried that discipline directly into piercing. It's why Platinum Point's protocols look different from a standard studio: they were built from clinical medicine, not the piercing industry.
Do you pierce children?
Yes — earlobe piercings for children, using the same needle technique and implant-grade titanium we use for every other service. We never use stud guns. A parent or guardian must be present, and we take the time to make the experience calm and comfortable for the child.
Can I request a specific piercer?
Yes. Thomas works Wednesday through Sunday; Kat works Sunday and Monday. If you have a preference — whether for availability, language (Kat is fluent in Taiwanese Mandarin), or any other reason — book accordingly.
