Order something
that doesn't
exist yet

The BVLA catalogue runs to 48,000 stone and design combinations. What we stock in the studio is a considered selection — but if what you want isn't here, we can get it made. Special orders source any configuration from the full BVLA range. Custom orders take it further: we work with BVLA's artisans to build something that has never existed before.

Two ways to order

Know what you want, or start from scratch

Option one

Special order

You've seen a BVLA design — either in our studio, on their website, or somewhere on the internet — and you want it in a specific stone or metal that we don't have in stock. A special order sources exactly that configuration from the full BVLA catalogue.

Best for: Clients who have a specific piece in mind and want it in a particular gemstone, karat, or metal colour. Also for clients who want to browse the broader BVLA range beyond our in-stock collection.

Minimum spend: None — priced at standard BVLA rates.
Lead time: Approximately 6 weeks from deposit.
Option two

Custom order

You have an idea — or the beginning of one — and want a piece that has never been made before. Tom works with you to develop the concept, then collaborates with BVLA's artisans in Los Angeles to produce a render and quote before production begins.

Best for: Clients who want something entirely original — a specific stone cut, an unusual combination, a piece designed to sit with existing jewellery in a precise way. Also for bridal or heirloom pieces where an off-the-shelf option won't do.

Minimum spend: $1,500 NZD.
Lead time: Confirmed with quote — varies by complexity.

How it works

A straightforward process. The complexity sits with us and BVLA, not with you.

01
Consultation or email
Book a consultation at the studio, or reach out by email. Tell Tom what you're after — a specific design you've seen, a stone type you love, or a general direction. If you have reference images, bring them or send them through. This conversation is free.
No charge
02
Tom finds your options
Tom searches the full BVLA catalogue — 3,000+ base designs, 233 gemstone types, yellow and white gold, multiple karats — to find the right combination for your anatomy and aesthetic. He'll present options with images and specifics.

03
Quote provided
Once you've chosen a configuration, Tom provides a full quote. BVLA pricing is based on metal weight, stone quality, and design complexity — the quote is exact, not an estimate.
No obligation
04
Deposit & order placed
Once you approve the quote, a deposit is required before the order is placed with BVLA. Production then begins in Los Angeles.
Deposit required
05
Arrival & fitting — ~6 weeks
Every BVLA piece is handmade. The standard lead time is approximately 6 weeks from the point of order. When the piece arrives, Tom fits it at the studio — anatomy and placement are assessed before anything is inserted.

Building something new

A more involved process — but one Tom has navigated many times. You don't need to arrive with a finished idea.

01
Consultation or email
Book a consultation or reach out by email. You might arrive with a clear idea, rough sketches, reference images from anywhere — or just a feeling. All of it is useful. None of it needs to be polished. Tom's job is to translate intent into a brief BVLA can work from.
No charge
02
Concept development
Tom sketches ideas with you if needed, or creates a written description and visual references. The goal is a brief that's precise enough for BVLA to render — specific about stone, setting, scale, and how it sits anatomically.

03
BVLA render
Tom works with BVLA's artisans in Los Angeles to produce a render of the piece. This is a visual representation of what the finished piece will look like — used to confirm you're happy with the design before production begins.

04
Quote & approval
Once the render is approved, a full quote is provided. Custom orders have a $1,500 NZD minimum. A production time estimate is given alongside the quote — timelines vary by complexity and depend on BVLA's current schedule.

05
Deposit & production begins
A deposit is required to start production. BVLA then handcrafts the piece in Los Angeles. When it arrives, Tom fits it at the studio — placement and anatomy are always assessed before anything goes in.

Tom handles every order personally

Every custom and special order goes through Tom — from the first conversation to the final fitting. That continuity matters when the piece you're ordering doesn't exist yet and precision is the whole point.

Tom has an unusually deep knowledge of the BVLA catalogue — what's achievable, what isn't, what tends to work anatomically for each placement, and where the stone and setting decisions that look small on paper make a significant difference in person.

Custom order
An original piece, built from a brief — a render before production begins

All pieces are solid 14k or 18k gold — never plated, never compromised. BVLA carries a lifetime guarantee against manufacturing defects on every piece.

Common questions

Before you reach out

Things people usually want to know before starting a custom or special order conversation.

A special order uses an existing BVLA design but in a stone, metal, or configuration that isn't in our current stock. You're choosing from the full BVLA catalogue rather than what we have on hand. A custom order creates a piece that doesn't exist yet — an original design developed with BVLA's artisans from a brief Tom writes with you.
No. For special orders, a general direction is enough — Tom will search the catalogue and show you options. For custom orders, even a vague idea or a reference image from somewhere else gives Tom enough to start the conversation. You don't need to arrive with a finished brief.
Approximately 6 weeks from the point your deposit is paid and the order is placed with BVLA. Every piece is handmade in Los Angeles — the lead time reflects genuine craft, not a warehouse delay. Complex special orders occasionally take slightly longer; Tom will flag this at the quoting stage if relevant.
No minimum for special orders. You're paying for the piece at standard BVLA rates — nothing extra for the sourcing. Custom orders have a $1,500 NZD minimum, which reflects the design and production time involved in making something original.
You can start the process by email — Tom can take a brief, source options, and provide a quote without a face-to-face consultation. Fitting, however, always happens in the studio. BVLA jewellery is never sold without a fitting — anatomy is assessed before any piece is inserted, regardless of how the order was initiated.
For custom orders, a render is produced and approved before production begins — so you've seen what the piece will look like before any commitment to manufacture. For special orders, the quote includes images of the exact configuration you've chosen. BVLA backs every piece with a lifetime guarantee against manufacturing defects. If there's a quality issue with the piece on arrival, that's covered.

Book a consultation or email Tom

Either works. A consultation gives you 45 minutes with Tom in the studio to look at pieces, talk through ideas, and leave with a clear direction. Email suits people who know what they're after and want to start the quoting process remotely.
