Most Auckland piercing studios exist because piercing is popular. Platinum Point exists because most studios don't meet the standard the work deserves.
Thomas Manning trained as a Clinical Trials Aseptic Pharmacy Technician — a pharmaceutical-grade clinical background that informs every protocol in the studio. Every instrument is autoclave sterilised and tested weekly. Every starter piece is implant-grade titanium. The downsize appointment is included because it is a clinical step, not an optional extra.
We are Auckland's only dedicated piercing studio in Parnell, and New Zealand's only exclusive BVLA studio. Clients travel from Remuera, Newmarket, Ponsonby, Takapuna, and the North Shore for appointments. Some come from Wellington and Christchurch.
Pharmaceutical-grade sterilisation
Not industry-standard sterilisation — clinical medicine sterilisation. Thomas's background in hospital pharmaceutical settings is the baseline for every instrument and surface in the studio. Autoclave tested weekly. Not monthly, not quarterly.
Implant-grade titanium as standard
Surgical steel is not implant-grade. Most piercing jewellery in Auckland mall kiosks is not implant-grade. Implant-grade titanium (ASTM F136) is inert, lightweight, and hypoallergenic. It is our standard starter material for all placements.
Downsize included — no exceptions
The downsize appointment — replacing the longer initial bar with a shorter, flush-fitting post once swelling resolves — is a clinical step that most studios skip or charge extra for. At Platinum Point it is included in the piercing price because it is part of the work.

We are a short drive from Newmarket, Remuera, CBD, Ponsonby, and Grey Lynn. Public transport: multiple bus routes stop on Parnell Road. Street parking is available on Parnell Road and the surrounding streets.

Do I need an appointment?
Yes. Platinum Point is appointment only. This ensures you get a full anatomy consultation, dedicated time with a specialist piercer, and the clinical attention that walk-in studios cannot provide. Book at platinumpoint.nz/book or call 09 949 0940.
How much does ear piercing cost in Auckland at Platinum Point?
Most ear piercings are $150, including implant-grade titanium starter jewellery and a complimentary downsize appointment. This covers lobes, helix, forward helix, tragus, conch, daith, and rook. BVLA solid gold jewellery is available from $300 once your piercing is healed.
What is the difference between a needle piercing and a gun?
A needle removes a small, clean core of tissue. A stud gun forces the stud through with blunt trauma — more tissue damage, more swelling, slower healing, and the jewellery cannot be properly sterilised between clients. Platinum Point uses only single-use sterile needles.
How old do you have to be for ear piercing?
For adults and teenagers aged 16 and over, no guardian is required. For children between 7 and 15, a parent or legal guardian must be present and provide consent. We do not pierce children under 7 years old.
Do you pierce cartilage in Auckland?
Yes — helix, forward helix, tragus, conch, daith, rook, and industrial piercings. All cartilage placements are performed with sterile needle technique under pharmaceutical-grade aseptic conditions. We include a complimentary downsize appointment with every cartilage piercing.
