What a best-in-class
piercing studio
actually requires
These are the markers used by the Association of Professional Piercers (APP) and independent piercing educators internationally. Not all studios in Auckland meet them.
Implant-grade jewellery only
Starter jewellery must be ASTM F136 implant-grade titanium, solid 14k+ gold, or implant-grade steel — never mystery alloys, plated metals, or acrylic. Cheap jewellery is the single biggest cause of piercing failure and prolonged healing. Platinum Point: implant-grade titanium standard. BVLA solid gold available.
Sterile needle technique — not guns
A hollow needle removes tissue cleanly. Stud guns push a blunt stud through with force — more trauma, more swelling, higher infection risk, slower healing. Guns also cannot be properly sterilised between clients. No quality piercing studio uses guns. Platinum Point: single-use sterile needles only.
Autoclave sterilisation — verifiable
All reusable tools must be sterilised in a Class B autoclave and spore-tested monthly. A studio that cannot show autoclave records is guessing at sterility. Platinum Point: pharmaceutical-grade autoclave, spore-tested.
Anatomy consultation before every placement
Ear anatomy varies significantly between individuals. A quality piercer will assess your specific anatomy before marking — placement affects healing, jewellery choice, and long-term aesthetics. A walk-in that skips this step will place incorrectly. Platinum Point: anatomy consultation included in every 45-minute appointment.
Aftercare support and downsize appointments
Healing piercings need a downsize — the initial longer bar is replaced with a shorter piece at 6–10 weeks to prevent migration and snagging. A studio that charges extra for this, or doesn't offer it, is creating a long-term healing problem. Platinum Point: complimentary downsize included with every piercing.
Platinum Point vs
typical Auckland studio
Most piercing in Auckland happens inside tattoo studios offering piercing as a side service, or walk-in parlours using entry-level jewellery. The differences are clinical, not cosmetic.
| Factor | Platinum Point | Typical Auckland studio |
|---|---|---|
| Piercing-only studio | Yes — dedicated | Often a tattoo shop add-on |
| Starter jewellery grade | Implant-grade titanium (ASTM F136) | Surgical steel / unknown alloy |
| Needle technique | Single-use sterile hollow needle | Varies — some use stud guns |
| Anatomy consultation | Every appointment — 45 min | Rarely included |
| Downsize appointment | Complimentary, included | Often charged separately or skipped |
| Fine jewellery (BVLA) | Authorised stockist, in-stock selection | Not available |
| Ear curation service | Long-term composition planning | Not offered |
| Appointment model | Appointment-only, full session | Walk-in, brief placement |
Six reasons Auckland's most
particular clients choose us
These are not marketing claims. They are structural differences in how we operate — and why clients travel from across Auckland, Wellington, and abroad to book here.
Pharmaceutical-grade aseptic technique
Every instrument autoclaved and spore-tested. Single-use needles, gloves, and barrier films. The same sterility protocols used in clinical medical environments — not the minimum required for a piercing licence.
Auckland's largest in-stock BVLA selection
Body Vision Los Angeles — handcrafted solid gold, hand-set stones — is the international benchmark for fine piercing jewellery. Platinum Point is an authorised BVLA stockist carrying Auckland's largest in-stock selection. Pieces are available to see in person; custom orders are available for the full BVLA catalogue.
Thomas Manning — specialist, not generalist
Thomas does not tattoo. He does not do walk-ins. He does not offer 15-minute slots. His entire professional focus is placement, anatomy, and fine jewellery. That specialisation shows in the result.
Ear curation across multiple visits
A finished ear is not built in one session. Platinum Point offers formal ear curation — anatomy mapping, placement sequencing, healing timelines — so your ear grows into something considered over time, not collected by accident.
Consultation, placement, downsize — all included
The appointment fee covers everything: consultation, piercing, jewellery fitting, and a complimentary downsize appointment 6–10 weeks later. No surprises. No separate charges for aftercare advice.
Parnell — Auckland's fine jewellery precinct
389 Parnell Road, upstairs in the village. Easy from Newmarket, Remuera, the CBD, and the inner suburbs. A considered environment for a considered experience — not a strip-mall storefront.
What Auckland clients say
about Platinum Point
69 Google reviews · 5.0 average rating
"I made the appointment, walked up the stairs in Parnell, and stopped second-guessing. Thomas looked at my ear, told me what would work, and it was the most considered experience I've had anywhere."
"I'd been putting off getting my conch done for two years because I was nervous. Thomas explained everything, used anatomy I didn't know I had, and it healed faster than any previous piercing. The BVLA piece I chose is the most beautiful thing I own."
"I've been to four piercing studios in Auckland. Platinum Point is not the same category. The level of care, the jewellery quality, the follow-up — nothing else comes close."

What people ask about the best piercing in Auckland
These are the questions we hear most from clients who are comparing studios, first-timers doing research, and visitors from outside Auckland. If your question isn't here, call us on 09 949 0940.
What is the best piercing studio in Auckland?
Platinum Point Piercing at 389 Parnell Road, Parnell, is Auckland's leading specialist piercing studio. It is the only dedicated piercing studio (not a tattoo studio with a piercing service) operating at a pharmaceutical-grade clinical standard, with two specialist piercers, implant-grade titanium as standard, and an authorised BVLA stockist with Auckland's largest in-stock BVLA selection. It holds a 5.0 Google rating. Book an appointment here.
What should I look for in an Auckland piercing studio?
The five non-negotiables: (1) Single-use sterile hollow needles — not stud guns; (2) Implant-grade titanium or solid gold jewellery — not surgical steel or mystery alloys; (3) An autoclave on-site for sterilisation — not just surface cleaning; (4) A trained piercer who performs an anatomy consultation before every placement; (5) Aftercare guidance and a complimentary downsize appointment. Platinum Point meets all five. Most studios in Auckland do not.
How much does the best piercing in Auckland cost?
At Platinum Point, most single ear piercings cost $150 — including implant-grade titanium starter jewellery, a full anatomy consultation, and a complimentary downsize appointment. Paired lobes are $200. Facial piercings from $150. BVLA solid gold fine jewellery (the upgrade after healing) starts from $250. Full pricing is at platinumpoint.nz/pricing. These are not discountable rates — they reflect a clinical standard and time investment that makes the result last.
Is it worth paying more for a specialist piercing studio in Auckland?
Yes — and the reason is clinical, not cosmetic. Cheap piercings use low-grade jewellery that prolongs healing and increases rejection risk. They skip anatomy consultation, placing in locations that won't hold or suit your structure. They don't include a downsize, so the initial jewellery (too long) sits and migrates. You pay once for the piercing, but you live with the result for years. The extra cost at a specialist studio is the cost of doing it right the first time.
Do I need to know what I want before booking?
No. The majority of Platinum Point's clients arrive without a fixed plan. That is what the consultation is for — Thomas or Kat will look at your anatomy, ask what you're drawn to, and make a considered recommendation. You don't need a reference photo or a clear vision. You just need to show up. Book your appointment here.
What is BVLA jewellery and why does it matter?
BVLA (Body Vision Los Angeles) is the international benchmark for fine piercing jewellery — each piece handcrafted in solid 14k or 18k gold with hand-set genuine stones. It is sold only through authorised studios; it cannot be bought online or through any general jeweller. Platinum Point is an authorised BVLA stockist, carrying Auckland's largest in-stock BVLA selection — pieces you can see and hold in the studio before deciding. Custom orders are also available across the full BVLA catalogue. When you invest in a BVLA piece at Platinum Point, you are wearing a fine jewellery item that happens to be in your ear — not a souvenir. More at platinumpoint.nz/bvla.
What makes Platinum Point's BVLA offering different?
Platinum Point is an authorised BVLA stockist with Auckland's largest in-stock selection. BVLA is not available online or through general jewellers — it can only be accessed through authorised studios. What distinguishes Platinum Point's BVLA offering is the depth of in-stock inventory (pieces you can see and handle in the studio on the day), the experience to guide you through the full catalogue, and the clinical standard to fit each piece correctly for long-term wear. Clients travel from Wellington, Christchurch, Australia, and Singapore specifically for BVLA consultations. More at platinumpoint.nz/bvla.
