Buying BVLA and luxury piercing jewellery in New Zealand

11 May 2026 5 min read By Platinum Point, Parnell

If you have searched for BVLA jewellery online in New Zealand, you will have found very little — and none of it sold directly by the brand. This is not an oversight. BVLA does not sell to consumers online, and the reason is structural rather than commercial: BVLA jewellery is designed to be professionally fitted, and fitting is part of the product.

In New Zealand, there is one place to access BVLA. Platinum Point Piercing in Parnell is the country's only exclusive BVLA studio — the only authorised source for BVLA pieces and the only studio with the full range in stock, including the ability to place custom orders.

Is BVLA available online in NZ?

No. Body Vision Los Angeles does not sell direct to consumers through any online channel. There is no official BVLA webstore, no NZ distributor selling online, and no legitimate way to purchase BVLA pieces without going through an authorised studio.

This is a deliberate policy. BVLA pieces are threadless jewellery — the decorative top attaches to a post via a bent pin that must be correctly tensioned for the specific post in your piercing. A piece purchased without professional fitting and tensioning can sit incorrectly, fall out at the wrong moment, or damage a healing fistula. The studio is not incidental to the purchase — it is where the piece becomes functional.

Platinum Point is the only authorised BVLA studio in New Zealand, and the only one with exclusive status — meaning BVLA is the only jewellery brand we carry. This gives us the largest BVLA stock in the country and the closest relationship with the brand of any NZ studio.

Why BVLA is not an online purchase

The threadless system requires three things to work correctly: a post of the right length for your specific piercing, a correctly bent pin on the decorative top, and professional assessment of both. None of these can happen through a parcel delivery.

Post length is not a rough measurement — a post that is 1mm too long will sit proud of the surface and catch on hair and clothing. A post that is 1mm too short will create pressure on healing tissue. Getting this right requires knowing the exact gauge and depth of your existing piercing, which varies between individuals and between piercings on the same ear.

The bent pin on a threadless top must also be calibrated — bent enough to hold the top securely under normal conditions, but not so tight that removal requires force. This calibration is done by a piercer at the time of fitting. A top that arrives through the post cannot have been calibrated for your specific post.

These are not minor technical details. They are the reason BVLA exists as a studio-only product. The quality of the jewellery and the quality of the fitting are not separable.

What the process looks like at Platinum Point

Accessing BVLA at Platinum Point works through several routes depending on your situation:

In-studio browsing (The Vault). Our in-studio collection — known as The Vault — holds current BVLA stock across a range of metals, stones, and styles. Clients with a jewellery change appointment or a new piercing appointment can browse what is available before or during their session. Pieces can be viewed, held, and placed against the ear before any decision is made.

Jewellery change appointments. If you have a healed piercing and want to upgrade to BVLA, a jewellery change appointment is the right service. We assess the piercing, confirm it is ready for a change, select a piece from available stock, tension the pin for your specific post, and fit it. The appointment typically runs 20–30 minutes.

New piercing with upgrade jewellery. Clients who prefer not to start with titanium can discuss beginning with a BVLA piece at the time of piercing. This is available for appropriate placements and healed-adjacent contexts — we advise on suitability at booking.

Pre-consultation browsing. Our jewellery page and BVLA page give a sense of what is available. The Ear Builder lets you visualise pieces in different positions. These are starting points for a conversation — stock changes, and the appointment is where selection becomes specific.

Custom and special orders

Platinum Point's exclusive BVLA status means we can place custom orders from the broader BVLA catalogue — pieces not currently held in our stock, specific metal and stone combinations, and special commissions that go beyond the standard range.

Thomas handles all custom BVLA orders directly. The process begins with a consultation — in person or by email — to establish what you are looking for, confirm availability within the BVLA catalogue, and agree on specifications. Once an order is placed, lead times vary by piece complexity: standard catalogue pieces not currently in stock typically arrive within 4–8 weeks; complex or custom commissions can take 6–12 weeks.

Custom orders require a deposit at the time of placing. The balance is settled at the fitting appointment. Contact the studio at hello@platinumpoint.nz or call 09 949 0940 to begin a custom order conversation.

What BVLA pieces typically cost in NZ

BVLA pricing in New Zealand reflects the material — solid 14ct or 18ct gold or 950 platinum, set with genuine stones — and the handcrafted production in Los Angeles. The range is broad:

  • Simpler threadless ends — single-stone bezel or prong-set ends in yellow or white gold, from approximately $180
  • Mid-range pieces — small clusters, shaped ends, and multi-stone arrangements, typically $280–$500
  • Complex cluster and statement pieces — larger arrangements with multiple genuine stones, pavé setting, or rare stone combinations, from $600 upwards
  • Platinum pieces — 950 platinum settings carry a material premium over gold equivalents

All prices at Platinum Point include professional fitting. There are no separate fitting fees, no hidden costs, and no price variation between what is quoted and what is charged. Full current pricing is available on our pricing page.

What about grey-market BVLA?

BVLA pieces occasionally appear on secondhand platforms — Trade Me, Instagram resellers, overseas eBay listings. The risks are specific and worth understanding before pursuing this route.

Authenticity. BVLA does not produce pieces for consumer resale. A piece sold outside an authorised studio cannot be verified as genuine. Convincing replicas exist in the market. Without provenance from an authorised studio, authenticity cannot be confirmed.

Sizing. A threadless top purchased without knowing the gauge and post length of your existing piercing may not be compatible. BVLA tops come in different pin gauges — most commonly 16g and 18g — and a top calibrated for one gauge will not tension correctly on a post of another gauge.

Condition. A secondhand piece may have a worn or incorrectly bent pin, compromised stone settings, or surface damage that is not visible in photographs.

Platinum Point can assess and fit a piece you have purchased externally if it is genuine BVLA, correctly gauged for your piercing, and in good condition. We cannot guarantee it, and we cannot verify authenticity without physical inspection. If you have a piece you want assessed, bring it in.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy BVLA as a gift for someone?

Yes. Contact us to discuss the options. The most practical approach is a jewellery change appointment as a gift — the recipient comes in, we select the piece together with them, and it is fitted professionally. This ensures correct sizing and tensioning, and means the person receiving it gets to be part of the selection. Call 09 949 0940 or email hello@platinumpoint.nz to discuss.

Can I order BVLA without getting a new piercing?

Yes. Jewellery change appointments are available for healed piercings. You do not need a new piercing to access BVLA — if you have a healed piercing at the correct gauge, a jewellery change appointment is all that is required. Book through the booking page and select jewellery change as the appointment type.

How do I know a BVLA piece is authentic?

Buy through an authorised studio. Platinum Point is New Zealand's only exclusive BVLA studio — every piece we stock and fit is authentic, sourced directly from BVLA in Los Angeles. Pieces from grey-market or secondhand sources cannot be verified for authenticity, and the risks of an incompatible or counterfeit piece are real. If you have a piece of uncertain provenance, bring it in for assessment before wearing it in a piercing.
