BVLA jewellery — why we stock nothing else

14 April 2026 6 min read By Platinum Point, Parnell

Body Vision Los Angeles — BVLA — is the name that comes up whenever serious piercers discuss the standard for fine body jewellery. Founded in Los Angeles, the brand has spent more than two decades producing implant-quality pieces in solid gold and 950 platinum with genuine stones. If you've seen a piece of body jewellery that made you stop and look, there's a reasonable chance it was BVLA.

Platinum Point is New Zealand's only exclusive BVLA studio. We don't stock other brands. This post explains what that means in practice, and why the distinction matters — both for the quality of what goes in your ear and for the results you get over time.

What makes BVLA different

Body jewellery spends months to years in contact with your skin — and in the case of a fresh or healing piercing, directly against healing tissue. Material and finish are not cosmetic considerations in this context. They affect whether a piercing heals, how it heals, and what it looks like once it's healed.

BVLA pieces are made in:

  • Solid 14k and 18k gold — yellow, white, and rose. Solid throughout, not plated over base metal. The gold content is consistent through the entire piece, including internal threading components.
  • 950 Platinum — an excellent option for clients with nickel sensitivities who may react to white gold alloys, and for those who prefer platinum's density and cooler tone.

Every piece uses implant-grade metal with a hand-polished mirror finish. The stone work — including diamonds, white sapphires, blue and teal sapphires, opals, tourmalines, London blue and Swiss blue topaz, and more — is set in-house by BVLA's own gem-setters in Los Angeles. Stone security is taken seriously; settings are not decorative afterthoughts.

The consistency of quality across the entire range is what sets BVLA apart from other fine body jewellery brands. From a 2mm diamond flat-back end to a complex multi-stone cluster piece, every component is held to the same standard of finish and material integrity.

Why we stock only BVLA

We made a deliberate choice not to carry multiple brands. Mixing jewellery quality levels creates inconsistency in clinical outcomes and in the aesthetic results of ear curation. A piece at a fraction of BVLA's price doesn't offer a proportionate fraction of the quality — the gap in finish precision, metal composition, surface polish, and stone security is often far greater than the price difference suggests.

Stocking a single, trusted supplier at the highest level of the market is also a clinical commitment. If we're placing jewellery in your ear, we know exactly what it is, where it came from, and what it will do in your tissue over the next 12 months. That's only possible when we work with one brand whose standards we've verified over years of daily use.

We stand behind everything we fit. That requires knowing exactly what we're fitting.

The BVLA range

BVLA produces an exceptionally wide range of styles — from the most minimal fine gem ends to elaborate sculptural pieces. The primary product types available at our Parnell studio include:

  • Threadless flat-back ends: Press-fit ends on implant-grade titanium or gold posts. The most versatile jewellery type across all placements — available in single stones, pavé clusters, marquise cuts, and shaped designs.
  • Seam rings: A continuous ring that opens and closes along a seamless seam. No visible hinge or gap. Available in yellow, white, and rose gold across a range of gauges and diameters.
  • Clicker rings (hinged segments): A hinged opening for easier fitting, with a secure click closure. Well-suited to daith, conch, helix, and tragus.
  • Curved barbells: For industrial, eyebrow, and select anatomical placements.
  • Captive bead rings: Classic circular rings with a single bead closure. A timeless option for helix, conch, and lobe.

The full range covers every major ear placement and most body placements. Pieces can be viewed in our jewellery catalogue or on the BVLA page.

BVLA and ear curation

BVLA's range is exceptionally well-suited to ear curation — the process of designing a composed look across multiple placements over time. Because pieces are produced in consistent metal options across all styles and categories, a helix piece, a conch piece, and a lobe piece can be selected to relate to each other tonally and aesthetically, even when they're quite different in form.

For clients building an ear composition over 18 months to three years, this consistency — in gold karat, finish quality, and stone type — is part of what makes the final result look intentional rather than accumulated. Two 14k yellow gold pieces from BVLA bought a year apart will sit next to each other with a coherence that mixed-brand or mixed-material jewellery simply doesn't produce.

Most of our curation clients in Auckland arrive with a BVLA piece in mind for at least their anchor placement. The consultation is where we help them build a jewellery framework around it.

Pricing: what does BVLA cost in New Zealand?

BVLA pieces at Platinum Point start from $180. Pricing varies significantly based on piece type, stone selection, metal choice (14k vs 18k), and overall complexity. A single fine-stone flat-back end sits at the lower end of the range; an elaborate cluster piece with multiple set stones at the upper end.

We provide detailed pricing during consultations and jewellery change appointments. All pricing is in New Zealand dollars and includes professional fitting. We don't charge separately for the fitting service when a jewellery change is booked.

For clients considering a full ear curation with BVLA pieces across multiple placements, total jewellery spend is something we discuss openly during the curation consultation — we give realistic estimates based on the piece types in the plan, so there are no surprises as the curation progresses.

Getting BVLA fitted in Auckland

Platinum Point at 389 Parnell Road, Parnell, is the only studio in New Zealand where BVLA jewellery can be professionally fitted by piercers who work with it every day. We're easily accessible from Auckland CBD, Newmarket, and Remuera, and within reasonable travel for clients across the wider Auckland region.

BVLA pieces can be fitted in several ways:

  • At the time of a new piercing: If you want to start with BVLA rather than titanium starter jewellery, we discuss this during the piercing consultation. Note that some placements heal better with titanium initially due to weight and fit considerations.
  • At a downsize appointment: When your initial labret is shortened at 8–12 weeks, a BVLA end can be fitted to the titanium post at the same time.
  • At a standalone jewellery change: If your piercing is fully healed — regardless of where it was pierced — book a jewellery change appointment to have BVLA fitted.

Book online or call 09 949 0940. We're open Monday, Wednesday–Sunday by appointment.

Caring for BVLA jewellery

Solid gold and platinum are durable materials but benefit from regular care, particularly in body jewellery that's worn continuously:

  • Clean with warm water and a small amount of mild soap during your regular shower. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Pat dry — don't let moisture sit around stone settings if possible.
  • Avoid exposure to chlorine (pools, hot tubs) which can dull gold over time.
  • Have settings checked periodically — we offer a check-and-tighten service for any BVLA piece fitted at our studio.

Solid gold does not tarnish, and 950 platinum maintains its appearance almost indefinitely with basic care. The finish on BVLA pieces is hand-polished and holds up well to daily wear.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I buy BVLA jewellery in New Zealand?

Platinum Point at 389 Parnell Road, Parnell, Auckland is New Zealand's only exclusive BVLA stockist. We are the only studio in the country where BVLA jewellery can be professionally viewed and fitted. Pieces can be browsed in our jewellery catalogue and on the BVLA page.

Can I have BVLA fitted in a piercing done elsewhere?

Yes. If your existing piercing is fully healed, book a jewellery change appointment and we'll fit a BVLA piece for you. We assess the current jewellery and the condition of the piercing before proceeding. Call 09 949 0940 to discuss your specific situation.

Is BVLA suitable for fresh piercings?

BVLA solid gold is appropriate for healed piercings. For fresh piercings, we start with ASTM F136 implant-grade titanium labrets — lighter, inert in healing tissue, and sized correctly for initial swelling. Once the piercing is healed (9–12 months for cartilage), we upgrade to BVLA.

Do you order BVLA pieces not in your current stock?

Yes. We can source specific BVLA pieces not currently in our in-studio stock. Lead times vary depending on the piece. Discuss this with us during a consultation or jewellery appointment.
